If you want a non-science heavy guide to AIP, written in easy to understand wording then this is the book for you. Small enough to fit in a regular sized purse and packed full of all the info you need to follow AIP successfully. Eileen Laird gives you all the info without delving into the heavy, difficult to follow science behind it. If you want that, then buy Sarah Ballantyne's book which is more expensive and is over 3 times longer but is basically what Eileen Laird puts in a shorter, more concise smaller size book.

Finished this book today and it was fabulous! I chose this book over The Paleo Approach because (as the author of this book I am reviewing stated, most people like me have severe 'brain fog') I wanted a fast, easy read without the science. It was thorough and did not leave questions in my mind. I feel equipped to move towards beginning this process. While I was not looking for a recipe or cookbook, there are a few in here. And while they do sound good, I don't think they are super creative as another book I purchased (Autoimmune Wellness). I prefer this book that I am reviewing over the Autoimmune Wellness for providing an overall beginners guide to AIP. The Autoimmune Wellness book was quite detailed (a little too detailed in my mind) BUT the charts of foods allowed and other information was laid out MUCH better and more comprehensive (aesthetically). And the recipes in the Autoimmune Wellness book were very creative. So I will absolutely use both in tandem for my new adventure. Now off to find good cookbooks!

Eileen Laird's A Simple Guide to the Autoimmune Protocol is the handbook you didn't realise you needed until...- you tried to get your head around the science behind the protocol (and gave up because your brain doesn't work that way)- your brain fog severely limited your ability to take in the detail behind the protocol- your doctor/naturopath/chiro'/health coach/other health professional suggested you look at AIP and you wanted an easy and/or speedy way to grasp the core concepts- you tried to explain - concisely - just what AIP is to your doctor/naturopath/chiro'/health coach/other health professional, and they didn't get it.- you wanted a resource that you could carry with you that you could refer to when you needed some clarity on the protocol- you need the support of someone who 'just gets' this nutrient-dense dietary and lifestyle approach you've chosen to take without judgmentI've been a fan of Eileen's blog, Phoenix Helix for a number of years. This guidebook is an extension of her warm and inclusive style. Highly recommended.

in addition to this book, Phoenix Helix is also a great blog with great recipes, and an informative podcast too. great AIP resource. if you have this book, and the Paprika app for organizing your recipes and you just Google recipes and maybe join an online group you'll be well on your way in no time. it's not hard if you just focus on what you can have and stick to that. I used visual aids - these photos I found of AIP foods to avoid and foods to eat. I told myself it was just for a month but I'm sticking with paleo because I feel so much better. you can do anything for a month and by then you'll be feeling a lot better so yes buy this book and get started!

Best book so far. Not a lot of science and detail, just the facts you need to get started. If you have brain fog like me anything more is overwhelming. It's a quick read and I now feel I have the info I need to get started. There are other supporting resources mentioned in the book which I love. Thank God for Eileen Laird for writing this book. I feel like I have a handy guide to refer back to. Will I buy other Paleo books? Certainly, but this book will always come in handy too.

Fantastic overview. I find that in combination with Sarah Ballantyne's Paleo Principles and just a few others for a variety of recipes is perfect. This is just a short read, yet loaded with links that are excellent. These Girls (the authors) all have autoimmune disorders and the books all work well together. No conflicting information. Diet along with exercise, and keeping stress to a minimum are the main keys to keeping autoimmune disorders at bay. Forget the Rheumatologist and all the chemicals, they will indeed kill you and you will not get well. This is a healthy cure or perhaps it heals the gut well enough to keep a person in remission.

I have been learning and researching AIP for the past month. I bought The Paleo Approach and The Paleo Approach Cookbook by Sarah Ballantyne, and while those are fantastic resources, they are also overwhelming. I bought this book and downloaded it on my kindle so I always have a reference to the basics right in my purse. I am 5 days into the protocol, which isn't very long at all, however, I honestly don't think I would have been able to get going when I wanted to without this pocket resource.

I just wish I read this little book sooner! It really is motivating and inspiring. She clearly explains the importance of eating certain foods and how highly beneficial they are for you. Who would of thought liver could be full of nutrients and vitamins? She says if it's chickens liver, it will be milder and it certainly is, so now I eat it once or twice a week. I didn't know its more nutrititious than other cuts of meat such as ground meat or even chicken. This and many more little tidbits are in her book, encouraging and cheering you on to be successful on your journey w/ Paleo AIP Protocol.
