This book deserves a place on your shelf next to Joe Kane's Amazon paddling book and Don Starkell's "Paddle to the Amazon" epic. There is physical danger from starvation, rockslides, terrorists, whitewater hell, poisonous insects, bad food, lost equipment, and just about anything else you can imagine. The writing is well done and keeps the reader's imagination alive. About 90% of the book is devoted to the first 10% of the trip. The flat section of the river is skimmed over (no pun intended), as it has little to offer in the way of adventure reading. Angus is a real adventurer and a read of this book begs you to read of his other adventures.
